Banter group talking a good game as it aids food bank

A Brighouse social media group came together for the first time and raised funds for the first food bank in the town.

Members of the Brighouse Banter group on Facebook decided to put on a family fun day to celebrate their first anniversary.

The event at The Party Venue situated next door to the  Brighouse Sports Club, who kindly donated the room and hot buffet for free, saw live bands play, family entertainment with a bouncy castle and face painting, and a raffle with proceeds going to Brighouse and Surrounding Homeless (BASH).

Jane Wainwright who helps run the group said she thought only a small amount of members would join her facebook group but the group now has over 3000 members.

“It all started with me putting a comment onto the Facebook page Memories of Brighouse.

“I put something on and someone said it wasn’t a memory so I thought we need something ‘now’ for Brighouse.

“The group has just got bigger and bigger.

“People were saying we should do something for the first birthday and we came up with this and it just snowballed from there.

“There have been a few sleepless nights with the amount of work that has gone into this but it has been worth it in the end.

The Facebook group discusses anything relevant to the town and surrounding area be it good or bad. It has helped lost animals be reunited with their owners, find family members and promote businesses, many who helped by donating prizes for the raffle.

“Our oldest member is nearly 90-years-old and our youngest is aged 11.

“The event was a great opportunity for people to get together and meet face to face.
“Plans are already afoot for a Christmas party.”

The event raised a total of £276 for BASH a local charity helping the homeless and disadvantaged in the town and in the surrounding areas.

To find out more and to join the group search ‘Brighouse Banter’ on Facebook.

The Party Venue wish to express thanks to the facebook group, Jane and her admin team who have helped in raising the profile of our newly rebranded Party Venue.
